Objective:Normal pressure hydrocephalus(NPH)is a kind of hydrocephalus syndrome with enlarged ventricular system and normal CSF pressure. The main clinical manifestations were gait disorder, cognitive disorder and urinary incontinence. It was introduced into the clinical literature by Hakim and Adams in 1965.At present, the main treatment is shunt. The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the postoperative symptoms, prognosis and complications of patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus by using adjustable or constant pressure shunt. Methods : 40 cases of normal pressure hydrocephalus with ventriculoperitoneal shunt from January 2015 to July 2019 were analyzed retrospectively.According to the different drainage tubes, they were divided into adjustable pressure group(26 cases)(65%)and constant pressure group(14 cases)(35%).The patients were followed up for 6 months to 1year.The improvement of postoperative symptoms and complications were recorded and analyzed by statistical method combined with the above data.T test was used formeasurement data and chi square test was used for counting data. There was significant difference between the two methods(P < 0.05).Results : A total of 40 patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus were included. There were 26 cases in adjustable pressure tube group and 14 cases in constant pressure tube group. There was no significant difference between the two groups in gender, age, number of patients with CSF pressure, number of patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus, number of patients with various causes of secondary normal pressure hydrocephalus, postoperative complications and improvement of clinical symptoms on the third day after operation. At the 6th month after operation,19 cases were in the adjustable pressure tube group and 5 cases in the constant pressure tube group. The statistical analysis showed that P = 0.036(P < 0.05),which was statistically significant. Conclusion : In the treatment of normal pressure hydrocephalus with ventriculoperitoneal shunt, the overall improvement rate and the incidence of complications were different with adjustable or constant pressure shunt, but there was no significant difference in statistical analysis. There are statistical differences in the improvement of long-term clinical symptoms after operation. The adjustable pressure tube can take individualized pressure regulation for different patients, and the long-term effect is better.
