Objective:To discuss the indication of ventriculoperitoneal shunt and cause of pediatric hydrocephalus by comparing curative effect and complication of fixed pressure V-P shunt and adjustable pressure V-P shunt through clinical data analysis. Methods:Analyzing clinical data of 45 patients treated with adjustable pressure V-P shunt and 56 patients fixed pressure V-P shunt from 2006.9 to 2010.8 retrospectively. Results:Adjustable pressure V-P shunt group:symptom disappeared,43 patients (95.6%); Complication occurred,5 patients (11.1%), fever and shunt obstruction are major complication. Fixed pressure V-P shunt group: symptom disappeared,50 patients (89.3%); Complication occurred,12 patients (21.4%), fever, shunt obstruction and subdural hematoma are major complication. Conclusions: Adjustable V-P shunt is better for treating pediatric hydrocephalus than fixed V-P shunt, complication of which is significantly lower and could be used as first choice for pediatric hydrocephalus. |
