Objectives To investigate the effect of different oxygen-inhalation time's on the memory of schizophrenic patients after modified electroconvulsive therapy(MECT) in different time points,so as to explore the optimal duration of oxygen therapy and make appropriate oxygen therapy program,to provide the practical basis for improving the temporary memory disorder caused by MECT.Methods Firstly,total of 128 schizophrenia patients were randomly divided into four groups according to chronological order of METC:control group included 34 cases,research group 1 included 33 cases,research group 2 included 31 cases,research group 3 included 30 cases.The four groups patients were treated with METC for 10 times.The patients in research group 1 were given 25 minutes normal pressure oxygen inhalation when they began Spontaneous breath after METC treatment everytime.Research group 2 were given 40 minutes, research group 3 were given 55 minutes,control group without oxygen.Using Wechsler Memory Scale Revice of China(WMS-RC),of which the memory level is represented by memory quotient,revised by Gong Yaoxian to assess the patients' memory function for 5 times.The assessments were respectively before MECT,the next day,one week, two weeks,four weeks after all MECT treatments.Using the positive and negative symptoms scale(PANSS) to assess mental symptoms of the patients for 3times.The assessments were respectively before MECT treatment,the next day and four weeks after all METC treatments.The therapeutic effect was evaluated by using the reduction rate of the PANSS total score after METC treatment.Using Pearson's correlation analysis to analysis PANSS total score and the general level of memory after treatment.Using the chi square test to compare the different Curative effects of four groups patients.Using repeated measures ANOVA to do the difference comparison regarding to memory level and mental symptom with the intervention factor oxygen inhalation time,the measurement time points.Results 1 The correlation between PANSS total score and general memory level has no statistical significance(P>0.05).2 Repeated measures ANOVA of PANSS:the differences of four groups patients with different oxygen inhalation time in positive,negative symptoms,general psychopathology score and PANSS total score have no statistical significance,P>0.05.The differences of the patients under three repeated measurement times in positive symptoms,negative symptoms,general psychopathology and PANSS total score of have statistical significance,all results showed P<0.001,pairwise comparisons showed significant differences and showed the same trend,serious degrees from high to low are as follows:before treatment,the next day after treatment,four weeks after the treatment.3 Chi square test analysis of MECT treatment effect showed that:the differences of METC treatment effects of four groups patients with different oxygen inhalation time have no statistical significance(P>0.05).4 The WMS of Patients the next day after treatment were significantly lower than that before treatment.5 Repeated measures ANOVA of general memory level showed that the differences of memory quotient under different oxygen inhalation time have statistical significance(P<0.001).The differences of memory quotient under all the repeated measurement time have statistical significance(P<0.001).Grouping and time have intervention effect(P<0.001). Simple main effects showed that memory quotient of patients in research groups was higher than that in control groups.The memory quotient of the patients with 55 minutes oxygen inhalation at each time point was higher than that in the other two groups,and memory quotient in the next day after the treatment was higher than that in the other three groups(P<0.001),the differences of the memory quotient between one week after the treatment and before the treatment have no statistical significance(P>0.05),but four weeks after the treatment,it was higher than that before treatment(P<0.01).6 Repeated measures ANOVA of long-term memory tests:the differences of four groups patients in experience,orientation, 1-100,cumulative four tests have no statistical significance(P>0.05). In the backword recite digit100-1 test,the scores differences of four groups patients with different oxygen inhalation are significant(P<0.001).Time factor had a significant effect on 100-1(P<0.001).The interaction effect between the oxygen inhalation time and repeated measurement time is significant(P<0.01). Simple effects analysis:Research group 3 is better than the other three groups,the score of patients after MECT doesn't decreased significantly(P>0.05);100-1 scores of the patients in control group have showed significantly reduced in the next day,a week, two weeks after the treatment,but the scores after four weeks have no difference with that before the treatment(P>0.05).For research group 1 patients and research group 2 patients,the differences between two weeks after the treatment and before the treatment have no statistical significance(P>0.05).7 Repeated measures ANOVA of short-term memory tests:the scores difference of the four groups patients in the regeneration and understanding has no statistical significance(P>0.05).The interaction effect between the oxygen inhalation time and repeated measurement time is significant in the mind map,recognition,association,tactile test,the time of oxygen inhalation and the time of repeated measurement was significant(P<0.01). Simple effect analyze that the scores of the patients in research group 3 have showed a better time changing trend than the other three groups.8 Repeated measures ANOVA of immediate memory:As the interaction effect is significant,the results of the simple effect analysis showed that:in the next day,one week,two weeks of treatment, the scores of the patients in research groups are significantly higher than that of the control groups.The instantaneous memory of the patients in research group 3 is better than the other three groups in the time changing trend,namely the time for the score get back to baseline is the shortest.Conclusions METC treatment can cause transient and reversible memory impairment.Oxygen inhalation can improve the memory loss caused by METC treatment, reduce the degree of memory impairment after METC treatment,shorten the time of memory recovery.Different oxygen inhalation time have different effects on the improvement of memory level of patients with schizophrenia.Compared to 25 minutes,40 minutes oxygen inhalation,55 minutes is better for the improvement of the memory level.Different oxygen inhalation time have different effects on the long-term memory of backword recite digit100-1;short-term memory of picture recall,vision recognition,association,tactile;and immediate memory,of which 55 minutes oxygen inhalation have better effect on improvement of various types memory after METC.
