Objective:To investigate the short-term efficacy of radiofrequency ablation for recurrent nodular goiter after surgery. To provide an effective method for the treatment of recurrent nodular goiter. Methods:A total of 48 patients with recurrent nodular goiter treated in the Department of Thyroid and Breast Surgery of Ningxia People’s Hospital from 2017.1 to 2019.1 were treated with radiofrequency ablation and surgery.Relevant clinical data such as intraoperative blood loss, operation time, drainage volume, incision, and length of stay were retrospectively analyzed.Results:(1)Comparison of postoperative complications:the recent total complication rate in the surgical group was 69.2%,and that in the radiofrequency ablation group was 9.1%.The total complication rate of the two groups was compared.X~2=15.345 P=0.000<0.05,there is a difference significance. The major complication rate in the surgery group was 34.6%.Four cases had unilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve injury. Two cases had hoarseness, one of which was transient and the other was permanent;two patients had drinking water choking cough after surgery.Three patients had hypothyroidism, and one patient had hypoparathyroidism. In the radiofrequency ablation group, the major complication rate was4.5%in the near term, and only one patient experienced transient hoarseness.Comparing the incidence of major complications between the two groups X~2=4.837,P=0.028<0.05,there was statistically significant. The secondary complication rate in the surgery group was34.6%.Six patients experienced incision pain that needed medicine to relieve, and three patients had nausea and vomiting. The incidence of postoperative secondary complications in the RFA group was 4.5%,and only one patient had pain at the puncture site requiring pain medication.Comparing the incidence of minor complications between the two groups,X~2=4.837,P=0.028(<0.05),there was statistically significant.Overall comparison:The intraoperative blood loss, operation time, drainage volume, length of hospital stay, and incision scar were compared between the two groups. The Z values were-5.958,-5.707,-6.225,-3.932,-6.27,and P were all less than 0.05.The difference was statistically significant.(3)Comparison of treatment effects:The patients in the surgery group were followed up for1 year and the thyroid color Doppler ultrasonography showed no residual surgery and recurrence nodules. In the radiofrequency ablation group, the volume reduction rate of patients during follow-up and the previous follow-up were compared. The t values were-14.348,-11.011,and-7.914,and P were all less than 0.001.The difference was statistically significant. No recurrence and residual nodules were found during follow-up.Conclusions:(1)Radiofrequency ablation for patients with recurrent nodular goiter has a lower incidence of major and minor complications than surgery. The difference is statistically significant. There was no significant difference between the single complication groups, but there was no permanent recurrent laryngeal nerve injury in the RF ablation group.(2)Compared with surgical treatment, radiofrequency ablation has less blood loss, shorter operation time,no need to place drainage tubes,no surgical scars, and faster recovery.(3)The volume of nodules after radiofrequency ablation gradually decreases with time.(4)There are differences in the effectiveness of the two surgical methods.
