Objective: To analyze the clinical features and improve the cognition of Ulcerative colitis(UC)in children. Methods: Medical records of 13 pediatric patients with UC at Chongqing Medical University Children's Hospital(Chongqing,China)between September 2013 and September 2019 were reviewed. Results: The 13 patients(7 males and 6 females)in the median age of onset was 11.8 years, and the median time interval from onset to diagnosis was 3 months.UC patients with blood stool, diarrhea and abdominal pain was 69.2%,84.6% and 76.9%,respectively.The intestinal lesion range of13 UC patients was E1 rectum(7.7%),E2 left semicolon(15.4%),E3 extensive colon(69.2%),and E4 rectum to liver curvature(7.7%).Endoscopic manifestations included 13 cases(100.0%)of mucosal embrittleness and easy bleeding,13 cases(100.0%)of continuous distribution,9 cases(69.2%)of local erosion, and 6 cases(46.2%)of superficial ulcers.Histological examination: inflammatory cell infiltration in 13 cases(100.0%),abscess in 5 cases(38.5%),crypt structure change in9 cases(69.2%).Children with UC can obtain satisfactory efficacy byselecting mesalazine as the drug for induced remission(53.8%)and maintenance remission(70.0%).There was no correlation between the complete clinical remission of UC in the first 3 months of treatment and the maintenance of long-term remission. All the 10 children did not report low self-esteem,anxiety,depression or other psychosocial conditions.5children with UC have stopped taking the medicine and have not had a recurrence. No adverse drug reactions were found affecting the treatment or changing the treatment regimen. Conclusions: The high incidence of ulcerative colitis in children is10-14 years old, with persistent blood stool, diarrhea, abdominal pain as the main manifestations, accompanied by extra-intestinal symptoms or systemic manifestations. The diagnosis should be combined with clinical manifestations, endoscopic examination and histological results. Most children choose mesalazine or mesalazine in combination with hormones as the induced remission drug, and mesalazine as the maintenance remission drug, which can obtain satisfactory efficacy. No significant correlation was found between the complete clinical remission of UC in the first 3 months of treatment and the maintenance of long-term remission.
