Objective: This thesis is aimed at studying the theory of “People in the spring are prone to suffer head troubles”in the Canon of Internal Medicine to clarify its theoretical meaning and implications and to systematically summarize its practical guidance and application value.Approaches: Retrieval of philology and analysis of theory.1.Based on the chapter of Plain Questions where the theory comes from and the text of Great Simplicity of Internal Classic with its viewpoints of the previous annotators, the author attempts to distinguish and analyze the difficulties and controversies related to the theory, and objectively grasp the language environment and knowledge background involved in the theory.2.To investigate the successors' direct reference, discussion and clinical application of the theory and to analyze the similarities and differences between the subsequent researches and the original theory so as to conclude the laws and principles.3.On the basis of the reference to other chapters of the Canon of Internal Medicine and the contents closely related to the theory in previous dynasties, the author will enrich and complete the quotation to highlight the value orientation of clinical application.Results:1.The current text has many omissions and errors compared with the text of the Great Simplicity of Internal Classic, which results the theoretical model——respectively independence of the diseases from the Shu and viscera and the combination of exopathogens and inpathogens appearing less obvious. With the principle of the correspondence between man and universe and the spirit of the interplay of the internal and the external circumstance, the Shu is shaped in accordance with the ten heavenly stems and personal qualities, corresponding to the body surface where five viscera gasifying with four seasons.2.In the later application, the spiritual essence of the text is considered more than the context. In the process of application, the theoretical framework has been extended, not bound by the original mode of disease and the former meaning of Bafeng. The concepts are also generalized. In terms of the head, the head has generalized from the body part of the head and neck to five body constituents of head and neck, organs, meridians and the cerebrum.Spring Qi is referred to as Spring Qi,Liver Qi and Wind Qi independently, and has been given new contents in the development of successive dynasties.3.The mechanism of “Yang Qi begins to grow and spread in the spring” is the essence of the theory“People in the spring are prone to suffer head troubles”.Under the influence of the concept——correspondence between man and universe and the interplay of the internal and the external circumstance, generations of doctors have laid a solid practical foundation for the construction of theoretical extension:(1)“People in the spring are prone to suffer head troubles” indicates that, under the action of Spring Qi,Yang Qi's self-stabilizing mechanism of the growth and divergence in response to time is easy to lead to lesions on the upper part of the body. This concept is mainly derived from the concept of“Zang-qi timing theory” in the Canon of Internal Medicine, which is the basic implications of the theory.(2)“People who suffer Liver Qi are prone to have headaches” suggests that, based on the comprehensive characteristics of the liver and the characteristics of meridian circulation, pathological conditions of the upper part of the body is vulnerable. This concept comes fromthe theory of “Researching Viscera through Seasons' Changes” in the Canon of Internal Medicine, which is the core theoretical implications of the theory.(3)“People who suffer Wind Qi are prone to have headaches” expresses that the tendentiousness and multiplicity of external and internal wind pathogen to the upper part of human body.It is one of the mechanisms of the narrow sense “People in the spring are prone to suffer head troubles”,and also the extension and special theoretical form of “People who suffer Liver Qi are prone to have headaches”.Conclusion: The theoretical meaning of “People in the spring are prone to suffer head troubles” is that the wind easily offends the “Shu of the liver” of the head and neck due to the growth of Liver Qi and the flourishing of Qi and blood. Its theoretical essence and core is“Yang Qi begins to grow and spread in the spring”.The theory ——“People in the spring are prone to suffer head troubles”,“People who suffer Liver Qi are prone to have headaches” and “People who suffer Wind Qi are prone to have headaches”,is the implications of theory. All of them emphasize the predisposition and multiple pathogenicity to the upper part of the body. Both of them can be divided but not separated. Those who can be divided have their own independent forms;those who cannot be separated are born from the theoretical core of “Yang Qi begins to grow in the spring”,and most of them are interplay of illness.
