Objective: A series of blinding eye diseases,such as retinoschisis,retinal detachment and choroid neovascularization are arised with the increasing prevalence of myopia year by year.Existing inspection methods cannot predict the development of myopia and evaluate the occurrence of retinal complications at an early stage yet.SD-OCT can accurately measure the thickness of each retinal sublayer.The purpose of this study is to provide the basis of early assessment for the development of fundus complications by searching for the changes in the thickness of each retinal sublayer.Methods: The study objects 1,052 students in Ejina,Inner Mongolia.All students underwent comprehensive eye examinations(slit lamp,axial length,intraocular pressure,OCT,computer optometry,etc.),questionnaires and matrix scanning of the macular area with SD-OCT.The SD-OCT software system is used to automatically layer the retinal partitions,and if necessary,manually adjust them,and finally obtain the corresponding retinal thickness value.Results: For 1052 subjects,964(91.63%)with an average age of 12.95±2.92 years(range from 8 to 20 years)were eventually aquaied the complete data.Among this,there are 708 teenagers(73.4%)belong to the Han nationality,and 256 teenagers(26.6%)belong to the Mongolian and other minorities.The average axial length of the eye was 24.17±1.17mm(range from 21.19 mm to 29.29mm).The mean spherical power was-1.34± 2.26d(range from-12.00 D to +7.00D).There were gender and ethnic differences in retinal thickness of the whole layer,inner and outer layers,and the retinal thickness of the Han nationality was smaller than that of the Mongolian and other minorities(the thickness of area C in outer layer was P=0.025,and the others were P<0.01).Retinal thickness(except for the area C of the whole and inner layer)was positively correlated with age(P<0.01).There was no statistically significant correlation between retinal thickness and axial length in the inner ring of ganglion cell layer(P=0.793)and inner plexus layer(P=0.893),but the thickness in each sublayer and the whole retina was correlated with axiallength of the eye(P<0.01),and the change in the outer ring was more significant.Conclusion:(1)For gender and ethnicities of Mongolian nationality and Han nationality,the thickness of macular area between teenagers is different;(2)Unlike adults,adolescent retinal thickness does not become thinner with age,which indicates that the trend of retinal thickness changes may be different at different ages;(3)Except that the thickness of the inner ring area of GCL and IPL is not related to the change of axial length,the macular fovea,inner ring area and outer ring area of other layers of the retina are related to the axial length,which may provide evaluation for myopia complications Early evidence-based diagnosis.
