Study On Treating Chemotherapy-induced Thrombocytopenia Using Bushen Tianjing Formula

Objective: to investigate the efficacy of Bushen Tianjing formula on degree ?,degree ? chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia(CIT).Methods: 120 cases with totally 120 chemotherapy cycles were involved in this study,all the patients met CIT diagnosis criteria and inclusion criteria,and signed informed consent.All these chemotherapy cycles were randomly divided into 4 groups,each group contained 30 cycles.All the patients in A group and B group met the diagnosis criteria for degree ? CIT,meanwhile the C group and D group met the diagnosis criteria for degree ? CIT.Patients in A group were treated using granules of Bushen Tianjing formula versus compound Zaofan pills taken by patients in B group.Patients in C group were treated using granules of Bushen Tianjing formula integrated with rh TPO,compared to rh TPO solely in D group.For patients who had ever been diagnosed CIT previously in A,B,C group,interventions such as granules and pills were taken soon after the chemotherapy.Symptomatic treatments were adopted during the study.Peripheral blood platelets count was tested regularly,time for platelets to recover,valley point platelets count,disease progress rate,Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)syndrome scores,adverse effects were observed and recorded.Results: recovery time for platelets in A group was shorter than that in B group(4.11±1.571 VS 5.23±1.824,P=0.037,P<0.05),valley point platelet count was significantly higher in A group compared with B group(61.13±8.406 VS 53.80±10.087,P<0.01).Elevated disease progress rates were observed in B group versus A group(P<0.05).Disease progress rate was significantly lower in C group versus D group(P<0.05),while the differences in recovery time(8.48±2.424 VS 8.10±2.634,P=0.5178,P>0.05)and valley point platelet count(36.89±9.460 VS 32.61 ± 10.104,P > 0.05)didn't reach statistical significance.Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)syndrome scores assessment in A group and C group was significantly decreased after the intervention of granules of Bushen Tianjing formula.Mildly positive linear correlation was observed between the recovery time of CIT and times of chemotherapy according to the result of Speraman analysis.There was no statistically difference in incidence of adverse effects between experimental group(A group and C group)and control group(B group and D group).Conclusions: Bushen Tianjing formula is effective in shortening the recovery time of platelets,increasing the valley point platelet count in degree ? CIT patients.It is also conducive to decrease the disease progress rate in both degree ? and degree ? CIT patients so as to reduce the risk of hemorrhage or even critical complications and the demands for blood transfusions.Meanwhile,the specific symptoms of TCM syndrome scores assessment related to the critical pathogeny,which refers to insufficiency of spleen and kidney,and essence shortage,could be alleviated after the intervention of granules of Bushen Tianjing formula.Mildly positive linear correlation was existed between the recovery time of CIT and times of chemotherapy.
