Objectives To explore the effect of bioactive glass on the remineralization and antidemineralization of early enamel caries treated with resin infiltration providing a theoretical basis for the clinical treatment. Methods Totally 125 bovine extracted teeth enamel models were create, among which105 samples(6mmx5mmx2mm)were divided into 7 groups(n=15):normal enamel group, demineralization group, resin infiltration group,Group A1(bioactive glass group),Group B1(deionized water group),Group A2(after the secondary demineralization of A1),Group B2(after the secondary demineralization of B1).These groups were tested by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)experiment, fluorescence spectrometer and roughness meter.Other 20 of samples(4mm × 4mm × 2mm)were divided into two groups(n=10):Group C(bioactive glass group)and Group D(deionized water group),which were analyse by microhardness experiments and color experiments. After artificial demineralization, each group was treated with resin infiltration. Then bioactive glass and deionized water were respectively applied for remineralization, and then the samples were treated with secondary demineralization. Each group respectively was detected by SEM,X-ray energy spectrometer, inverted fluorescence microscope(IFM),roughness meter, microhardness tester and Olympus Crystaleye spectrophotometer respectively. Results 1 SEM showed that the enamel surface of Group A1 with small pores and particulate deposits, was smoother than that of Group B1.After secondary demineralization, compared to Group B1 and B2,the enamel surfaces of Group A1 and A2 were both rougher and the pore sizes were larger. On the enamel surface,Group A2 still showed remineralized particles, while the pore size was smaller than that of Group B2,and no remineralized particles were found on Group B2.2 Energy spectrum test results showed that the mass ratio of calcium to phosphorus and molar ratio of Group A1 were the highest, followed by Group A2,Group B2 was the lowest(P<0.001),and there was no difference between Group B1 and Group A2(P>0.05).3 Fluorescence and roughness results showed that fluorescence of Group B2 were the highest, followed by Group A2,normal enamel group was the lowest(P<0.001).The fluorescence area, fluorescence intensity, mean fluorescence intensity of Group A1 were less than Group B1,but the roughness of Group A1 was greater than Group B1(P<0.001).4 For Group C and D,the microhardness of the initial normal enamel was the highest, followed by the enamel after the treatment of remineralization, and the microhardness of the enamel after demineralization was the lowest(P<0.001).The microhardness of Group C was significantly higher than that of Group D after remineralization(P<0.05).5 The color difference value showed that for Group C and D,the value of color difference was the highest after demineralization, followed by the secondary demineralization(P<0.001).Compared to Group D,the color difference value of Group C after remineralization was smaller(P<0.05).Conclusions Bioactive glass could not only promote the remineralization of early enamel caries treated with resin infiltration, but also inhibit secondary demineralization of enamel caries repaired by resin infiltration.Figure8;Table5;Reference 153...
