Objective To investigate whether occasional pulmonary nodules can cause anxiety and depression in patients, and the correlation between anxiety and depression and changes in peripheral blood Th17/Treg and inflammatory factor levels. Methods One hundred and forty-six cases of subjects from the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University were included from April 2019 to July 2019.All subjects were assessed with the Beck Anxiety Inventory(BAI)and the Beck Depression Inventory-II(BDI-II).40 cases were healthy controls and 103 cases were patients with pulmonary nodules.Patients were divided into three groups according to the scores of the scales: 36 cases in anxiety group,18 cases in depression group and 62 cases in no anxiety and depression group. The percentage of T helper cell 17(Th17)and Regulatory T cells(Tregs)in peripheral blood, and inflammatory factors in serum were detected.Calculated the absolute counts of Th17 cells and analyzed differences between groups and correlations between these indicators. Results There were statistically significant differences in the percentage of Th17 cells, the absolute counts of Th17 cells, the ratio of Th17/Treg cells, the levels of interleukin-2(IL-2),interleukin-6(IL-6),tumor necrosis factor-?(TNF-?)between healthy control group,no anxiety and depression group, anxiety group and depression group(all P<0.05).Both the anxiety group and the depression group were higher than the healthy control group and no anxiety and depression group. There was no significant difference between the healthy control group and no anxiety and depression group, the anxiety group and the depression group.(all P>0.05).There were no significant differences in the percentage of Tregs, levels of interleukin-4(IL-4)and interleukin-10(IL-10)between the groups(all P>0.05).The proportion of females with anxiety and/or depression was higher than that in males(P<0.05).Conclusion Patients with pulmonary nodules are prone to varying degrees of anxiety and depression, which leads to immune dysfunction and low-grade inflammation.
