| Objective: To investigate the feasibility, accuracy and stability of computer-aided optokinetic nystagmus analyzer in visual acuity assessment. Methods: A total of 218 subjects who could pass the standard logarithmic visual acuity chart were collected for visual acuity assessment using computer-aided optokinetic nystagmus analyzer. The right eye was chosen in all subjects for statistical analysis. The total percentage of visual acuity and the percentage of visual acuity in different age groups and gender groups assessed by computer-aided optokinetic nystagmus analyzer were recorded, and the differences between different ages and genders were analyzed statistically. For the subjects using computer-aided optokinetic nystagmus analyzer, the correlation between the results of the two methods and the correlation between the two measurement methods based on different ages and genders were analyzed using the correlation coefficient method. The two visual acuity values assessed by the computer-aided optokinetic nystagmus analyzer were subjected to repeated measurement analysis, and the repeatability of the two measurement methods in overall subjects, subjects at different ages and subjects with different genders was compared. Results: The overall testability of visual acuity by computer-aided optokinetic nystagmus analyzer was 94.50%.The testability was 94.94% in the ≤ 10 years group,94.23% in the 11-20 year group,94.64% in the 21-40 year group,93.55% in the > 40 year group,93.52% in all males and 95.45% in all females. No statistical significance was found in testability between different age groups(P = 1.0),or between different gender groups(P = 0.531).The visual acuity assessed by computer-aided optokinetic nystagmus analyzer was positively correlated with the visual acuity measured by the standard logarithmic visual acuity chart(overall correlation coefficient R,-0.98;correlation coefficient R in the ≤ 10 years group,-0.98;correlation coefficient R in the 11-20 years group,-0.98;correlation coefficient R in the 21-40 years group,-0.98;correlation coefficient R in the > 40 years group,-0.98;correlation coefficient R in all males,-0.98;correlation coefficient R in all females,-0.98).The median of overall repeatability of computer-aided optokinetic nystagmus analyzer was-1.86,±1.96σ =(57.30~-61.02),the median in the ≤ 10 years group was 0.11,±1.96σ =(34.18~-33.97),the median in the 11-20 years group was-0.52,±1.96σ =(54.03~-55.07),the median in the 21-40 years group was-0.74,±1.96σ =(75.41~-76.88),the median in the > 40 years group was-11.29,±1.96σ =(65.08~-87.66),the median in males was-3.0,±1.96σ =(55.15~-61.15),and the median in females was-0.77,±1.96σ =(59.27~-60.81).Conclusion: The computer-aided optokinetic nystagmus analyzer presents high feasibility, accuracy and stability in the assessment of visual acuity. Therefore,it can be used in the assessment of visual acuity. |
