Objective: To explore the clinical characteristics, treatment and prognosis of primary squamous cell carcinoma of thyroid gland(PSCCT).Methods: Through follow-up,summary and discussion of clinical case data, treatment plan and survival of PSCCT patients admitted to Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University from January 1998 to August 2018.Kaplan-Meier method was used for univariate analysis of survival rate,log-rank method was used for difference analysis test, and survival rate and prognostic factors were calculated. Results: All 13 patients were followed up.At the end of follow-up,a total of 11 patients died of the disease and 2 patients survived. The 3-month,6-month,1-year,3-year,and 5-year survival rates were 76.92%,46.15%,30.76%,15.38%,and 15.38%,and the median survival was 8 months. At the end of the follow-up,2 patients survived. One had received radical resection combined with postoperative radiotherapy. One was a patient with a primary tumor diameter of only 0.5 cm.The other patients had died before the follow-up.Kaplan-Meier method was used for univariate analysis of survival rate. The size of the primary tumor and the presence of gross tumor residue after the operation were the relevant factors affecting the prognosis of PSCCT.Conclusion: Primary squamous cell carcinoma of the thyroid is a malignant tumor that progress rapidly and has a poor prognosis. The size of the primary tumor and the presence of macroscopic residues during surgery are the relevant factors affecting the prognosis.Ultrasound and CT can be used to help in the process of diagnosis.Pathological and immunohistochemical results can confirm the diagnosis of PSCCT.Surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy are currently considered to be the most effective treatments.
