Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the incidence and risk factors of mental disorders, malnutrition and decreased quality of life(QoL)in hospitalized IBD patients by cross-sectional investigation. Methods: IBD patients who met the inclusion criteria and were admitted to the department of gastroenterology, the first affiliated hospital of China medical university from January 2018 to January 2019 were collected and completed the relevant questionnaires, including psychological assessment scale(HADS,CPSS,PSSS),malnutrition risk screening scale(NRS2002),diet concept and behavior, and quality of life scale(IBDQ).Demographics(age, sex, smoking history, etc.)and clinical characteristics(disease course, disease activity, clinical laboratory indicators, etc.)were also collected. The counting data are described in terms of frequency and percentage. The significance of qualitative comparison between chi-square test and Wilcoxon rank sum test. The measurement data were expressed as mean and standard deviation(SD),and the significance of quantitative comparison was evaluated by t test and variance analysis.Regression models were developed to detect risk factors for psychiatric disorders, malnutrition, and declining quality of life in IBD patients. Results: In this study,a total of 78 hospitalized IBD patients,45 CD patients and 33 UC patients were included, with an average age of 42 years.Among them,76(97.4%)IBD patients had anxiety and 71(91%)had depression.Forty-six IBD patients(59.0%)were at risk of malnutrition. The mean score of IBDQ was 131.51±36.136.In multivariate analyses,a history of hormone therapy use in the past year and higher disease activity were associated with the development of anxiety in IBD patients;Higher disease activity is associated with depression in IBD patients.Higher disease activity and avoidance of certain foods during disease recurrence are associated with a higher risk of malnutrition in IBD patients.Unemployment/ lower levels of education, higher disease activity, and lower social support are associated with decreased quality of life in IBD patients. Conclusion:This study found that the incidence of mental disorders, malnutrition and decreased quality of life was higher in patients with IBD,especially in patients with UC.Higher disease activity is a risk factor for mental disorders in IBD patients.Higher disease activity and avoidance of certain foods during disease recurrence are risk factors for the occurrence of malnutrition in IBD patients.Unemployment/ lower levels of education, higher disease activity and lower social support are risk factors for decreased quality of life in IBD patients.
