Objective: To understand the relationship between personality characteristics and overweight & obesity of children,explore whether there is a correlation between parents' nutritional status and children's personality characteristics and take favorable measures to promote the healthy development of children's personality.Methods: Four primary schools were selected from the second to fifth grades in clusters from one certain district of surveyed area in March-June,2019 by means of convenient sampling to conduct physical measurements and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ)on the students and parents.Analysis of variance(ANOVA)was used to analyze the personality characteristics of children with different nutritional status while Dunnett t was used for further inter-group comparison and Pearson was adopted to study the relationship between body mass index(BMI)and personality of parents and their children.Results: 1.The rate of overweight & obesity of children and their parents in Shenyang is relatively high,and the total detection rates of overweight & obesity among children and parents are respectively 34.9% and 36.1%,and the incidence of overweight & obesity in father is higher than that in mother.The BMI of parents is positively correlated with that of children.2.Children's personality characteristics show that obese boys have lower E scores and tend to be introverted while overweight & obese girls have higher N scores and tend to be emotionally unstable.Parents' personality characteristics show that obese mothers with lower E scores tend to be introverted;the parents in obese group with lower N,P and L scores tend to be emotionally stable and weak and have low dissimulation.3.Maternal BMI is positively correlated with girls' nervousness and psychosis scores.Conclusion: The rate of surveyed area's overweight and obesity in children aged from 7 to 11 is higher,and the primary school students' personality health shows that the obese boys tend to be introverted and the overweight & obese girls tend to be emotionally unstable.The BMI primary school students is positively correlated with that of parents.And the personality characteristics of primary school students is related to the BMI of parents.
