Objective: Oral appliance is a simple and effective treatment for obstructive sleep apnea(OSA).The remotely controlled mandibular positioner(RCMP)device can effectively predict the therapeutic effect of oral appliances. This study classified patients based on the RCMP prediction results, and analyzed the correlation between the craniofacial morphological characteristics and the RCMP prediction results, providing a theoretical basis for the initial screening of clinical patients.Materials and methods: Thirty-four adult male OSA patients who were treated at the China Medical University Respiratory and Sleep Multidisciplinary Treatment Center from July 2016 to July 2019 were selected. The patients were divided into two groups according to the prediction results of RCMP.Prediction success group(n=24)and Prediction failure group(n=10).Winceph 9.0 software was used to measure and analyze the cephalograms of the two groups of patients. The measurement items included dental index, bone index, soft tissue index, airway index and hyoid bone index.Statistical analysis was performed on the measurement results using SPSS software. Results: There was no significant difference in age, body mass index(BMI)and apneahypopnea index(AHI)between the two groups. The difference of the U1-Pt A vertical index was statistically significant. The degree of anterior tooth protrusion in the prediction success group was significantly greater than that in the prediction failure group, and the differences in the other measurement indexes were not statistically significant. Conclusion: Cranio-maxillofacial morphological characteristics are correlated with RCMP prediction results. The index of upper teeth protrusion can be used for the preliminary screening of OSA patients suitable for OA treatment.
