| Background: Café-au-lait macule(CALM)is a pigmented skin disorder, presented as tan or hazel well-circumscribed evenly pigmented macules or patches.Owing to the aesthetic concerns, the patients or guardians who seek treatments usually have the macules on exposed sites such as face. With the development of technology, photoelectric treatment of skin diseases are increasing.Based on the theory of selective and fractional photothermolysis, the application of fractional Q-switched ruby laser(FQSRL)or intense pulsed light(IPL)on CALM is rational. However, the retrospective data is lacking. Objective: To conduct a retrospective observation on the clinical data of CALM patients treated with FQSRL or IPL,and to provide more experiences for photoelectric treatment of CALM.Methods: We collected and analyzed the cases that were treated with FQSRL or IPL in the laser center of department of dermatology,No.1 hospital of China Medical University, from April 2016 to April 2019.The information for each patient were as follows: patient demographics, macule location, date of treatment, treatment frequencies and regimens.Photographs were taken by a high definition digital camera. The efficacy was blindly evaluated by doctors using a quartile grading scale of improvement in the macule appearance. The data was analyzed using statistical software SPSS 21.0.Results: Clinical data of 121 patients with CALM were collected. For FQSRL(N=67),88.23%,95.46%,100% patients achieved >50% improvement by 3 sessions,4 sessions, and more than 4 sessions of treatment, respectively. For IPL(N=54),45% patients achieved >50% improvement by 3 sessions, and up to 87.5% by more than 4 sessions of treatments.Under each time-point,FQSRL presented more favorable responses than IPL(P<0.05).With the increase of treatment times,FQSRL and IPL presented a better therapeutic trend. Conclusion: FQSRL or IPL would be an alternative and safe modality for CAML.Especially,FQSRL performed a better effect. |
