Purpose:This study aimed to delineate the clinical characteristics, nocturnal polysomonography(NPSG)and multiple sleep latency tests(MSLT)in narcolepsy typel(NT1),narcolepsy type2(NT2)and Idiopathic hypersomnia(IH)children(before 18 years old). Methods:All participants were collected the basic information, related questionnaire,HLA-DQB 1*0602 test results.Clinical symptoms were recorded by consultation.Data were collected by PSG and MSLT.Statistical analysis comparing the differences between NT1,NT2 and IH children were performed by SPSS.Results:NT1,NT2,and IH children did not differ in sex, age,or BMI.28%NT1,25%NT2 and 29%IH children were overweight.Meanwhile,47%NT1,40%NT2 and 29%children were obese.More than half children showed irritability affecting their quality of life.More than 60%showed poor academic performances.Compared to NT2 children,NT1 had greater prevalence of nocturnal sleep onset rem period(defined as REM sleep latency ≤ 15 minutes during NPSG,NSOREMP),lower sleep efficiency, shorter nocturnal sleep latency and nocturnal REM latency, shorter mean sleep latency(MSL),higher number of SOREMP,as well as higher onset of hypnagogic hallucinations and sleep paralysis.Compared to NT1 children,NT1 adult had poorer sleep efficiency, more percentage of N1 and N2 sleep stage. The numbers of SOREMP for NT2 children varied between prepuberty and puberty.12.5%NT2 children had developed typical cataplexy.Conclusion:NT1,NT2 and IH patients were more likely to have a higher BMI and be associated with psychosocial problems.NT 1 children had a more severe disorder of sleep structure.Compared to NT 1 children,NT 1 adult suffered a more severe disorder of sleep structure.NT2 children showed a great many differences compared with NT1 and IH in clinical manifestations,NPSG,MLST.Some NT2 children could change into NT1 naturally.
