Objective:To explore the effects of nasal-specific symptoms of chronic rhinosinusitis(CRS)patients on their psychological dysfunction such as anxiety and depression, and the improvement of psychological dysfunction by endoscopic surgery. Methods:Within one week before operation and 6 months after operation,44 patients with CRS treated in the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery of Guangyuan Central Hospital were assessed with The Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA),Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD)and the 22-Item Sino-Nasal Outcome Test(SNOT-22)to evaluate their psychological function and the degree of nasal specific symptoms. At the same time,51 healthy adults who came to our hospital for physical examination were randomly selected as the control group.Results:1.There was a linear correlation among HAMA,HAMD and SNOT-22(P<0.01).SNOT-22 was divided into symptom subscale and psychosocial subscale,in which the symptomatic subscale was significantly correlated with HAMA(r=0.312,P=0.039),but not with HAMD(P>0.05).2.59.1%of CRS patients were complicated with anxiety and depression, and CRS patients with anxiety and depression had more severe dizziness, craniofacial pain and sleep disorders.3.After functional endoscopic sinus surgery, the scores of HAMA,HAMD and SNOT-22 in patients with CRS were lower than those before operation(P<0.01).Conclusion:Patients with CRS are likely to be complicated with psychological disorders such as anxiety and depression.Specific symptoms such as dizziness and craniofacial pain in patients with CRS are related to their psychological dysfunction.Endoscopic surgery can significantly alleviate the specific symptoms and psychological dysfunction of patients.
