Objective:Irritable Bowel Syndrome(IBS)is a highly prevalent chronic gastrointestinal disease. However, there are few reports based on the latest Rome ? diagnostic criteria in China, especially in specific young people. The purpose of this study is to investigate the prevalence of IBS in college students by using the Rome ? diagnostic standard, and analyze the relevant factors,so as to provide reference for further improvement of IBS diagnostic standard and scientific and reasonable treatment. Methods:this cross-sectional study is based on the existing research at home and abroad.According the Rome ? diagnostic criteria,we use self-made questionnaire and SPSS 17.0 for data statistical analysis and graphics processing.Chi-square test was used for counting and univariate analysis.Logistic regression analysis was used for multivariate analysis.P value<0.05 is considered as significant difference. The odds ratio was analyzed by 95%confidence interval. Results:a total of 1348 questionnaires were distributed and 1223 questionnaires were valid with an effective rate of 90.7%.The prevalence of 60 patients in IBS group was 4.9%.P values of 14 factors, including gender(p=0.820),grade(p=0.352),major(p=0.080),place of residence(p=0.572),economic conditions(p=0.451),dairy products(p=0.126),high-fiber food(p=0.971),fruits and vegetables(p=0.909),exercise(p=0.627),alcohol consumption(p=0.353),smoking(p=0.818),food allergy(p=0.190),depression(p=0.074)and anxiety(p=0.066)were>0.05.As a result, those factors were not correlated with the incidence of IBS.Six factors, including eating spicy food(p=0.002),eating raw and cold food(p=0.011),eating high-fat food(p<0.001),irregular menstruation(p=0.010),history of gastroenteritis(p=0.001)and insomnia(p=0.014)were correlated with the incidence of IBS.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that frequent consumption of spicy food(p=0.014)and previous history of gastroenteritis(p=0.025)were statistically significant with the incidence of IBS.However, frequent consumption of high-fat food(p=0.010)was statistically significant in the IBS of female samples withp<0.05.Conclusion:according to Rome ? diagnostic criteria, the prevalence of IBS in undergraduates was 4.9%.Eating spicy,cold,high-fat food, irregular menstruation, history of gastroenteritis, insomnia has a certain impact on the IBS.A previous history of gastroenteritis and frequent consumption of spicy food are considered as risk factors for IBS.Frequent consumption of high-fat food is considered as a risk factor for IBS in female sample.14 factors including gender, grade, major, place of residence, family income, dairy products,high-fiber food, fruits and vegetables, exercise, alcohol consumption, smoking, food allergy, depression and anxiety were not found statistically significant.
