Objective:The aims of this study were to investigate the COPD knowledge level of family caregivers and the correlation with self-management level of COPD patients, for the implementation of family-based self-management of COPD patients. Methods:This study was conducted as a cross-sectional survey.200 pairs of COPD patients and their primary family caregivers from Yancheng First People's Hospital, between September 2018 and February 2019,were recruited using a convenient sampling method. The self-made general data questionnaire,COPD health knowledge scale and COPD self-management scale were used to investigate the COPD knowledge level of primary family caregivers and the self-management level of COPD patients, and to analyze the correaltion between them. All data were analyzed by SPSS 18.0 statistical software.Results:1.A total of 200 questionnaires were provided in this study, and 189 were recovered. After excluding 9 invalid questionnaires, the final valid questionnaire was 180 and recovery rate was 90.0%.2.The COPD knowledge level of primary family caregivers The average score of COPD health knowledge scale of primary family caregivers was(16.03±6.23),which was generally at a low knowledge level,96 cases of low knowledge level(<18 points),accounting for 53.3%,66 cases of moderate knowledge level(18-24 points),accounting for 36.7%,18 cases of high knowledge level(>24 points),accounting for 10%.3.The self-management level of COPD patients The average score of self-management scale of COPD patients was(129.17±49.04),and the overall self-management level was at a lower-middle level,of which 90 cases were low self-management level(<124 points),accounting for 50%,54 cases of moderate self-management level(124-180 points),accounting for 30%,and 36 cases of high self-management level(>180 points),accounting for 20%.4.Correlation between COPD knowledge level of primary family caregivers and self-management level of COPD patients The correlation coefficient between the total score of COPD health knowledge scale and the total score of COPD self-management scale was 0.998.The correlation coefficient between the each dimension scores of COPD health knowledge scale and the each dimension scores of COPD self-management scale was 0.580-0.863.The correlation coefficient between the each dimension scores of COPD health knowledge scale and the total score of COPD self-administration scale was 0.610-0.845.They were all positively correlated(all P<0.001).Conclusion:1.Primary family caregivers are generally at a low level of COPD knowledge, and the self-management of COPD patients is generally at a middle level.2.The COPD knowledge level of primary family caregiver is significantly positively correlated with the self-management level of COPD patient.Improving the COPD knowledge level of primary family caregivers may elevate the self-management level of COPD patients. This provides a potential for the implementation of family-based self-management of COPD patients.
