Objectives:To summarize and compare the short-term clinical outcome of THA through SuperPATH approach and posterolateral approach.Methods:170 patients(85 in SuperPATH approach and 85 in PLA approach)from August 2016 to April 2018 were recruited in the present study. The incision length, operation duration, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative hemoglobin difference(compare the hemoglobin pre-operation and 3?5 days after operation, except those underwent blood transfusion),postoperative blood transfusion, visual analogue scale(VAS),hip harris score(HHS),timed up and go(TUG),timed stair climb(TSC),short physical performance battery(SPPB),postoperative hospital stay, functional recovery, and prosthetic position were analyzed and compared between two groups respectively. Results:The mean incision length, operation duration, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative hemoglobin difference, postoperative blood transfusion, postoperative hospital stay were 7.5±0.6cm,122±35 min,435±229 ml,28.1±11.4 g/L,114±239 ml,8.1±2.5 d in the SuperPATH group respectively, while those in PLA group were 14.5±1.5 cm,106±32 min,449±385 ml,28.7±11.4 g/L,124±304 ml,9.0±3.2 d.The mean incision length and the hospital stay of the SuperPATH group were significantly less than that of the PLA group, while the mean operation duration was significantly longer than that of the PLA group. The HHS were higher in SuperPATH group than PLA group within one month after surgery and the VAS were less in SuperPATH group than PLA group on the 1st,3rd and 14th days after surgery.Functional recovery in the SuperPATH group was faster than that in the PLA group based on the TUG,SPPB,TSC.In the two groups, one case of deep vein thrombosis occurred in the PLA group.one case of dislocation occurred in the SuperPATH group due to excessive postoperative rehabilitation and the dislocation did not happen again after manual reduction. And We lost contact with one patient of the SuperPATH group during the period of follow-up.Conclusion:Compared with the PLA approach,SuperPATH approach has the advantages in terms of incision length, soft tissue damage, hospital length of stay, rapid recovery of hip joint function, but the operation duration is relatively long.
