There is a large population of patients with hypertension in China, the incidence of hypertension increases with the increase of age,at the same time, the level of blood pressure increases gradually, the level of hypertension tends to be serious, and the aging level of the population continues to deepen, which brings greater economic burden to the society and families. At present, the mainstream treatment of hypertension is drug treatment and non-drug treatment.Traditional Chinese medicine or western medicine has its own advantages and disadvantages in the choice of antihypertensive drugs, and it is affected by many factors when patients choose what kind of drugs to treat. There are differences in the effect of blood pressure control caused by different drug choices. This study analyzed the medication patterns of middle-aged and elderly patients with hypertension in China, explored the influencing factors of taking traditional Chinese medicine in middle-aged and elderly patients with hypertension, and studied the effect of medication patterns on blood pressure control in Chinese middle-aged and elderly patients with hypertension, and put forward suggestions for the use of antihypertensive drugs in middle-aged and elderly patients with hypertension. This study uses the Chinese Health and Pension follow-up Survey(China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study,CHARLS)database to take the middle-aged and elderly people taking medicine for hypertension as the research object, extract relevant indicators from the database, and re-analyze and re-mine the data.Literature review was used to sort out the treatment methods and efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine for hypertension, and the influencing factors of patients' medication behavior;descriptive analysis was used to study the current situation of medication patterns and population characteristics of middle-aged and elderly patients with hypertension in China.Univariate analysis and logistic regression were used to study the influencing factors of taking traditional Chinese medicine in Chinese middle-aged and elderly patients with hypertension.Nonparametric test was used to study the effect of different medication behaviors on blood pressure control in patients with hypertension.A total of 11012 people were included in this study, including 3090 in 2011,3670 in 2013 and 4252 in 2015.The results showed that:(1)the total number of subjects treated with traditional Chinese medicine was 780,accounting for 7.08%,and the total number of subjects treated with western medicine was 10232,and the proportion of middle-aged and elderly patients with hypertension treated with traditional Chinese medicine increased slowly.(2)in the results of univariate analysis, the mode of taking medicine was related to nationality, marital status, education level, hukou, region, type of residence, drinking, number of chronic diseases complicated with hypertension, course of hypertension, occupation, number of blood pressure tests within a year and self-assessment of health. The results of multivariate logistic regression showed that the Han nationality(? =-1.124,P < 0.05),the longer the course of hypertension(? =-0.0672,P < 0.05;? =-0.849,P < 0.05),working in government, public institutions and enterprises(? =-1.136,P < 0.05;? =-1.136,P < 0.05).The middle-aged and elderly patients with hypertension were not inclined to be treated with traditional Chinese medicine in the western region(? =-1.538,P < 0.05).The middle-aged and elderly patients with hypertension who were educated in junior high school, senior high school and technical secondary school(? = 0.215,P < 0.05)tended to use traditional Chinese medicine.(3)effect on blood pressure control: the average systolic blood pressure and average diastolic blood pressure of middle-aged and elderly hypertensive patients treated only with traditional Chinese medicine were higher than those who took only western medicine(82.445 > 81.266144.412 > 143.718).There was no significant difference in average diastolic blood pressure between Chinese middle-aged and elderly patients with hypertension treated only with traditional Chinese medicine or western medicine(P > 0.05),but there was significant difference in average systolic blood pressure(? =-2.230,P < 0.05).Based on the analysis of the results, the following conclusions are drawn:(1)the proportion of Chinese middle-aged and elderly patients with hypertension treated with traditional Chinese medicine is low;(2)the medication style of middle-aged and elderly patients with hypertension in China is affected by many factors, among which nationality, education, region, occupation and course of hypertension are significant influencing factors.;(3)the health level of middle-aged and elderly patients with hypertension who only take traditional Chinese medicine or western medicine is not good;according to the conclusions of this study, the following suggestions are put forward:(1)strengthen the propaganda of traditional Chinese medicine;(2)strengthen the role of community health services of traditional Chinese medicine;(3)improve the quality of traditional Chinese medicine, strengthen the scientific research, innovation and development of traditional Chinese medicine;(4)combine Chinese and western treatment to reduce side effects and improve the quality of life;(5)pay attention to the use of drugs for hypertension in the middle-aged and elderly.
