Platelet Indics In Patiens With Ulcerative Colitis In China

ObjectiveUlcerative colitis(UC)and Crohn's disease(CD)are non-specific inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)of unknown etiology.Many serum biomarkers such as hyper-sensitive C-reactive protein(hsCRP),erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR)have been studied for monitoring of disease activity in IBD.Blood platelets play an important role in inflammation and the repair of damaged tissues.The aim of the present study is to investigate whether mean platelet volume(MPV),platelet distribution width(PDW)would be useful,non-invasive biomarkers for evaluation of UC activity.Materials and MethodsCollect the parameter of platelets and other blood cells of patients with Ulcerative colitis and control group,comparing relevant indices between the two groups.At the same time,according to the lesion site and disease index,sensitivity and specificity and the correlation analysis were analysed.Statistical analysis:Data were analyzed with SPSS17.0 software.All data were expressed in terms of mean�standard deviation,analysis of variance was used and comparison between two groups were compared with LSD and Dunnett-t.X~2 test was used.Correlation analysis was performed,and the sensitivity and specificity of ROC(receiver operating characteristic curve)curve were demostrated.Two-sided values of P values below 0.05 were considered as statistically significant.ResultsMPV of active UC(9.85�1.011fl)patients were significantly lower than that of healthy donors(t=6.075,P=0.000).PDW was significantly decreased in patients with active UC(11.319�2.041fl)compared to healthy donors(t=3.752,P=0.001).PLT,WBC,ESR,hsCRP for UC were higher than that of healthy donors,263.46�92.643�10~9/L,7.55�2.99�10~9/L,17.64�18.84mm/h,17.72�28.4mg/L,respectively.There were significant diff-erences between two groups.MPV and PDW for Ulcerative colitis patients are different according to difference lesion locations,there were statistically significant differences(F=14.757,P=0.000;F=12.977,P=0.000),MPV and PDW for Ulcerative colitis patients are different according to disease index,there were statistically significant differences(F=19.939,P=0.000;F=19.873,P=0.000).The sensitivity and specificity of MPV and PDW(73%,73%;78%,75%)was signifi-cantly higher than that of ESR and hsRNA(56%,65%;65%,48%).A positive correlation was found between MPV and PDW(r=0.857,P<0.001).There were negative correlations between MPV and PLT,MPV and WBC(r=-0.389,P<0.001;r=-0.208,P<0.001),between PDW and PLT,PDW and WBC(r=-0.384,P<0.001;r=-0.195,P<0.001).However,correlations between MPV and ESR,MPV and hsCRP had no statistical significance(r=-0.157,P=0.054;r=-0.163,P=0.171).ConclusionsMPV,PDW and PLT are convenient,inexpensive and uninvasive indics which can be applied to assess the Ulcerative colitis activity.They are more sensitive and specific than ESR and hsCRP.
