Objective Develop a comprehensive group psychotherapy manual for bipolar disorders in China,and evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of it.Method 1.The primary version of the manual was developed on the base of literatures,clinical experiences and expert advises.The final version was formed after 2 rounds of revise.2.To conduct the prospective paired design.Patients were divided into Study Group(manual-based group intensive outpatient program,M-IOP)or Control Group(treatment as usual,TAU).3.The treatment of M-IOP were as follows:three times per week,90 min each session,total 10 sessions,3.5weeks.4.Adopted MARS,HAMD,YMRS,HAMA,TEMPS-A,TCSQ,IMSI,Qol-6 and GAF to evaluate the effectiveness.Adopted drop-out rate,attendance and acceptable to evaluate the feasibility.5.All data were analyzed by SPSS 16.0.PP analysis was used to analysed the follow-up data,P<0.05 as the difference was statistically significant.?2 test,Mann-Whitney U test,Wilcoxon rank sum test and repeated measures anova were used.Results 1.Developed the Group Therapy,structural and operational.2.This study included 48 cases,Study Group had 25 examples,Control Group had 23 examples.The basic demographic characteristics has no statistical difference between two groups.3.Effectiveness of Group Therapy It had a positive effect on compliance.Compared to baseline MARS Scores(P=0.009)were significantly increased(P=0.014,P=0.009)in Study Group.It had a positive effect on clinical symptoms,mental status and social function.Compared to baseline,HAMD-17,YMRS and HAMA scores were significantly decreased(P=0.008,P=0.022,P=0.010)in Study Group.Compared to baseline,TCSQ active responding scores were significantly increased(P=0.014)in Study Group.Compared to Control Group,Stereotype Endorsement and IMSI scores were statistically lower(P =0.014,P=0.009)in Study Group.Compared to baseline,GAF score was significantly decreased(P = 0.000)in Study Group,not for Qol-6.Compared to Control Group,GAF scores were statistical higher(P=0.003)in Study Group.4.Feasibility of G-CBT The drop-out rate was 14.58%,all the patients in Study Group were acceptable,attendance was 8.44/10.The feasibility is high.Conclusion The effectiveness and feasibility of this standardized structural group therapy manual was good.In the future,studies on long term follow-up and different population should be down to further evaluation.
