Objective:To detect the clinical significance of abundance of Micro RNA-21(mi R-21)in gastric cancer and further analyse serum mi R-21 as an indicator for the evaluation of the pathologic staging of gastric cancer preliminary. Methods: The cancer and para-tumor normal tissues and preoperative serums from 50 cases of gastric cancer patients, and the serums from 50 cases of non-gastric cancer controls are collected. Then RT-PCR was used to assess the expression levels of mi R-21 of the above samples. The general, clinical and pathologic data of gastric cancer patients and healthy controls are also collected. We compared the serum mi R-21 of in gastric cancer patients with those of non-gastric controls, analysed the correlation of levels of mi R-21 between cancer tissues with serums from gastric cancer patients and did some research on the differences of levels of mi R-21 among gastric cancer patients with different pathological staging.Results:(1)The level of mi R-21 in gastric cancer tissues increased significantly compared with para-tumor normal tissues(P<0.05).(2)The levsls of serum mi R-21 in gastric cancer patients was significantly higher than non-gastric cancer controls(P<0.05).(3)The area under the ROC curve was 0.94,indicating the high accuracy of mi R-21 in diagnosis of gastric cancer.(4)The levels of serum mi R-21 in gastric cancer patients had the correlations with the levels of cancer tissues, and the gastric cancer patients with later TNM staging showed the higher levels of serum mi RNA-21(P<0.05).Conclusion: Mi R-21 can be used as the testing index to diagnose and predict the staging of gastric carcinoma.
