Objective:To understand the distribution characteristics of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)syndrome types in children with asthma, and to explore the relationship between TCM syndrome types and pulmonary function in children with asthma,in order to better guide clinical diagnosis and treatment and evaluate prognosis. Methods:This study collected 104 children aged 5 years to 14 years old with asthma in the pediatric asthma clinic and ward of Xiamen Hospital of TCM,the affiliated to Fujian University of TCM.According to the clinical symptoms, tongue and pulse of the children, the TCM syndrome differentiation was carried out.At the same time, the pulmonary function of the children in the group was tested, and the relationship between syndrome type and pulmonary function was analyzed by statistical analysis. Results:The results of this study showed that the distribution characteristics of TCM syndrome types of 104 children with asthma were as follows: cold asthma > asthma of external cold and internal heat > heat asthma > asthma of deficiency and excess,of which 43 cases were cold asthma. There were 30 cases of asthma of external cold and internal heat(28.8%),24 cases of heat asthma(23.1%),7 cases of asthma of deficiency and excess(6.7%),In terms of gender distribution, there were 70 cases of male asthma, accounting for 67.3%,while only 34 cases of female asthma, accounting for 32.6%.The incidence of male asthma was about twice as high as that of female asthma. In terms of age distribution, the incidence of asthma in children was mainly concentrated in 5 to 7 years old, accounting for 44.2%,followed by 7 to 10 years old, accounting for 37.5%,indicating that the proportion of asthma attacks in preschool children was the highest, followed by school age.In terms of seasonal distribution, the incidence rate was the highest in winter(35 cases,33.7%),followed by autumn(25 cases,24.0%),spring(23 cases,22.1%)and summer(21 cases,20.2%).It shows that autumn and winter are the seasons with high incidence of asthma in children, and the incidence rate is similar in spring and summer. The results of the study on the relationship between syndrome types and pulmonary function in children with asthma attack showed that obstructive ventilation dysfunction was the most common pulmonary function report in children with asthma attack, and small airway dysfunction existed in all syndrome types.Moderate to severe decrease of small airway was more common. There was no significant difference between syndrome type and specific indexes of pulmonary function in children with asthma attack. Conclusion:In this study,it was found that the TCM syndrome types of infantile asthma in Xiamen area were mainly cold asthma, followed by asthma of external cold and internal heat and heat asthma, and the least asthma of deficiency and excess.Autumn and winter are the high incidence of asthma in children, the incidence of male children is higher than that of female children, mainly in pre-school age, followed by school age.The results of TCM syndrome types and pulmonary function reports of asthma attack were more common in obstructive ventilation dysfunction, small airway dysfunction in all syndrome types, and moderate to severe decrease in small airway. There is no significant statistical difference between syndrome types and specific indicators of pulmonary function in children with asthma attack, but this study is a small sample study,so its representativeness and accuracy are open to question, and large sample studies or repetitive studies are still needed to verify the results.
