BACKGROUND:Myopia is a worldwide public health problem.According to the World Health Organization(WHO),about 1.4 billion people are currently suffering from myopia, and it is expected to grow to 2.5 billion by 2020.The prevalence of myopia among Chinese adolescent is increasing year by year.According to analysis, the prevalence of myopia in chinese children is 38.37%.Myopia,especially high myopia(diopter?-6.00D),can easily cause eye complications in adults, such as cataract, glaucoma, retinal and vitreous diseases, etc, which is the cause of blindness in myopia patients and seriously affects the visual quality and quality of life of patients. The factors of myopia include genetic factors and environmental factors, and the pathogenesis has not been clarified. Therefore, the key to the intervention of myopia is to control the risk factors affecting myopia. It is necessary to grasp the prevalence of myopia in adolescents, explore the related factors affecting myopia in adolescents, and further explore myopia intervention strategies,so as to reduce the prevalence of myopia in adolescents.OBJECTIVE : To investigate the prevalence rate and risk factors of myopia in school children aged 6-18 years,in Chengdu and Mianyang city,Sichuan Province,China, and understand the prevalence rate and risk factors of myopia among adolescents in Sichuan province and provide scientific basis for prevention and control of myopia among adolescents.METHODS:This cross-sectional stratified sampling study collected 4,071 students aged 6-18 years from October 2017 to May 2018 in Chengdu and Mianyang City,Sichuan Province. All students underwent ocular examination and performed questionnaire survey.Eye examination included visual acuity, external eye,eye position, anterior segment, diopter, etc.EPidata software was used to establish electronic database and input data, and statistical software package SPSS21.0 was used for statistical analysis.RESULTS:1.3,857(94.74%)students were participated in this study with a mean age of 11.86±3.43 years. These included 2,026 boys(52.5%)and 1,831 girls(47.4%).2,827 students(73.3%)underwent optometry after participating in ciliary paralysis.2.The prevalence rate of myopia was 61.2%.The prevalence rate of myopia ofprimary school, junior high school and senior high school students were36.0%?81.0%and 92.8%,respectively.And the prevalence rate of high myopia were 0.2%?4.5% and11.0% respectively. The differences were statistically significant(P<0.001);The prevalence rate of myopia of boys and girls were 659.6% and 63.0%,respectively,with no statistically significant difference(p>0.05),and the prevalence rate of high myopia rates were 3.6% and 4.9%,respectively,with statistically significant difference(p<0.05).The prevalence rate of myopia in key and ordinary schools were 64.3% and54.4%,respectively,and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.001).3.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that myopia was associated with gender, age, parental myopia, near work, watching TV,computer use, attending tutorial classes and outdoor activities;High myopia was associated with gender, age, parental myopia, and computer use.CONCLUSION:The main reason for the low vision of school children in Chengdu and Mianyang City in China is myopia.Myopia was associated with gender, age, parental myopia, watching TV,near work, computer use, attending tutorial class and outdoor activities.High myopia was associated with gender, age, parental myopia, and computer use.
