The Associations Between Suicidal Ideation And Quality Of Life In Tianjin Community Population:A Cross-Sectional Study

Objective: 1.To study the factors related to the quality of life(QOL)in community residents in Tianjin,and to focus on the correlation between suicidal ideation and quality of life.2.Explore the relationship between suicidal ideation and quality of life in all domains.3.Explore the influence of past suicidal ideation on the quality of life.Methods: The data of this study was from the Tianjin Mental Health Epidemiological Survey Project.The study used the stratified multi-stage cluster random sampling method,a total of 15,538 households were selected from 100 committees/villages in Tianjin,and one adult(aged 18 and older)family member who lived at least half of the time in the past six months was randomly selected from each household as the interviewee.Two-stage design was adopted: In the first screening stage,an expanded general health questionnaire was used for screening.A total of 11748 respondents completed the screening phase of the survey.In the second diagnostic stage,stratified random sampling was performed on the respondents who completed the screening.Finally,4438 participants completed the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV-TR Axis I Disorders and the assessment of lifetime suicidal ideation.A total of 4,396 respondents who completed SCID-I/P completed the assessment of the health-related quality of life questionnaire.In the univariate analysis,the incidence of quality of life was tested by χ2 test,and multivariate analysis was performed using logistic regression analysis.The difference was statistically significant at P<0.05.Results: 1.There were 4,396 people completing the quality of life questionnaire,including 1,865 males and 2,531 females.There were 497 people(11.3%)with a lifetime suicidal ideation and 3899(88.7%)who had never had suicidal ideation.2.The analysis results of influencing factors of quality of life show that rural(OR=1.285,95%CI:1.003~1.647),working(OR=1.438,95%CI:1.145~1.804),hospitalization due to physical diseases(OR=1.444,95%CI:1.176~1.773),poor subjective family economic status(OR=3.619,95% CI:2.959~4.427),GHQ≥4(OR=3.427,95%CI:2.797~4.200),PSQI> 7(OR=1.958,95%CI:1.545~2.480),Years of Education 0-6 years(OR=3.518,95% CI:2.241~5.521),diagnosis of mental disorders(OR=2.319,95% CI:1.882~2.856),Current suicidal ideation(OR=2.351,CI:1.428~3.871),past suicidal ideation(OR=1.426,95% CI:1.064~1.910)are risk factors for QOL.3.Chi-square test showed there was a significant correlation between suicidal ideation and various QOL domains: total scores of QOL(χ2=178.476,P<0.001),physical QOL(χ2=113.717,P<0.001),mental QOL(χ2=245.529,P<0.001),economy(χ2=64.539,P<0.001),work(χ2=84.751,P<0.001),relationship with family members(χ2=89.573,P<0.001),relationship with others(χ2=23.286,P<0.001).4.Multivariate logistic regression analysis was carried out on physical and mental QOL.the current suicidal ideationis is a risk factor for physical QOL(OR=2.056,95%CI:1.286~3.288)and mental QOL(OR=3.079,95%CI:1.839~5.154);the past suicidal ideation is a risk factor for mental QOL(OR=1.857,95%CI:1.336~2.580).Conclusion: 1.The risk factors of poor QOL of residents in Tianjin include: no work,low years of education,living in rural areas,poor subjective economic conditions,poor subjective sleep quality,physical illness,mental disorders,and lifelong suicidal ideation.2.suicide ideation and QOL have significant statistical differences in in all domains.Including physical,wental,work,economic,relationship with family members and relationship with others.3.Both current suicidal ideation and past suicidal ideation are risk factors for QOL.4.Past suicidal ideation mainly affects the mental QOL.
