Color Distribution Of Anterior Teeth Of Young People In Shanghai

Objective:To study the color distribution of the permanent anterior teeth of young people in Shanghai.Materials and methods:2423 permanent anterior teeth from 203 Chinese young people?102 males and 101 females?aging from 20 to 35 years old were measured with digital colorimeter Crystaleye?Olympus Inc.,Tokyo Japan?for the value of L^*,a^*,b^*of the teeth.Admission criteria:vital anterior teeth with normal and complete shape,no pigmentation,debris,calculus,no anterior teeth bleaching therapy history.The chromatism??E?was calculated according to the formula ?E_L^*a^*b^*=[??L^*?²+??a^*?²+??b^*?²]^1/2.Data were analyzed with SPSS 19.0 software package for Student's t test and one-way ANOVA.Results:1.The mean value of L^*a^*b^*of anterior teeth was:cervical region:L^*:70.77±3.17,a^*:4.25±1.31,b^*:21.30±3.60;body region:L^*:71.46±3.29,a^*:2.17±1.30,b^*:19.59±4.02;incisal region:L^*:67.90±2.95,a^*:1.31±1.23,b^*:16.08±3.73.2.There was significant difference between the central incisors and the lateral incisors as well as the canines in terms of L^<sup>*a^*b^*.Meanwhile significant difference was also found among the L^*a^*b^*value of cervical,body,incisal areas.3.No significant difference was found between the same name teeth on the left side and the right side in terms of L^*,a^*,b^*value?P>0.05?.Respectively,significant difference was found between the teeth on the upper and lower jaw.Meanwhile,there was significant difference between male and female.4.As for the use of VITAPAN Classical,most incisors appeared to be A1 and A2 while canines were A3.5 and B4.Conclusions:Among young people,the central incisor appear much brighter than the lateral incisors and canines,while canines were redder and yellower.The difference among cervical,body and incisal regions,as well as the influence of sex and teeth position,should be considered while doing shade match in clinic.
