Background and ObjectiveCongenital melanocytic nevi(CMN)are present at birth or appearing within the first year of life.CMN in the eyelid and periorbital region could cause cosmetic disfigurement, psychological impact, risk of malignant transformation and functional problems.Few studies focus on the safety and efficacy of laser treatment in this region.Meanwhile,no systematic classification and surgical management have been proposed in this region for East-Asian.Material and MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed the patients treated with ablative lasers and evaluate the safety and efficacy; We retrospectively analyzed the patients managed with surgery excision and recorded the size, location and surgery procedures.ResultsThe average subjective visual evaluation score was 2.8.The mean objective value of the relative L*improvement rate and blanching rate of the CMN lesion were 32.0%and 34.1%.The objective and subjective evaluation showed a good correlation(P<0.001).the patients managed with surgical excision and classified them into three types.Skin grafts, rotation skin flaps, advance skin flaps and expanded skin flaps were designed to reconstruct the defect.ConclusionThe outcomes after laser treatment were variable although half of the patients achieved over 50% clearance. It provides an alternative to surgical excision for the removal of CMN in the difficult regions. We classified the surgery patients into three types and propose surgical strategy. |
