Diagnosis And Treatment Strategy Of Anterior Open Bite Of Adults

Anterior open bite of adults is a common dentofacial deformity in clinics,which affects not only function of chewing and respiration but also the esthetics of patients.According to the pathogenesis it can be classified into two types :dental(The insufficient of anterior teeth eruption or overextension of the posterior teeth)and skeletal(Abnormal growth and development of jaw);The etiologies of anterior open bite of adults are quite complicated,including the result come from oral bad habits in childhood,oral and maxillofacial trauma,systemic disease and so on;The diagnosis of anterior open bite of adults is also very difficult,majority of patients have both dental and skeletal etiologies is hard to distinguish.The treatment of anterior open bite of adults need detailed planning by the pathogenic condition of patients.The major treatment methods including straight wire arch technique,MEAW technique,the usage of implant anchorage,Invisalign system,orthodontic and surgical treatment and so on.Sometime,it needs to combine several methods in order to achieve the goal.Compare to other patients,the maintenance of effect after the treatment is also a big problem for adults with anterior open bite.This review can provide some guidence for clinic treatment by explaining and discussing the etiologies,classification,diagnostic mode,the choosing and implementing of treatment plan and the importance of the retention after the therapy.
