Objective : The effect of intermittent hypoxia(IH)on the infarct size(IS)after acute myocardial infarction(AMI)in rats is still controversial. This study intends to evaluate the effect of IH on the changes of myocardial infarction area after AMI in rats. Methods : The literatures on the effects of IH on IS after acute myocardial ischemia and reperfusion in rats were searched by Pubmed,Embase and Web of Science. The data of each group were analyzed using the random effects meta-analysis,and the effects of different experimental variables on the myocardial infarct size were also analyzed.RESULTS: A preliminary search of 3633 articles, and finally included 29 groups of data in 24 articles(12 in vivo,17 in vitro). The IS decreased after AMI in IH rats: in vitro group(SMD-1.494,95%CI-2.361,-0.627);In vivo group(SMD-1.435,95%CI-2.046,-0.824).Sensitivity analysis indicated that intermittent hypoxia had a strong protective effect on myocardial infarction,in which the hypoxia concentration was significantly correlated with the change of IS.Conclusion: IH can reduce the IS after AMI in rats. Its effect may be related to hypoxic dose and hypoxic concentration may be one of the most important influencing factors.
