Objective: To explore the clinical features of neonatal appendicitis(NA),and improve diagnosis rate and prognosis. Methods: We reported 2 cases of NA in our hospital, and preformed a retrospected chart review of 321 patients admitted in the Chinese literature together with our own 2 cases, that revealed a total of 323 cases during the period of 1980 to 2018.09.Results: There were 43 premature infants(23.0%),the ratio of male to female was 2.3:1,the main manifestations were fever, abdominal distension, vomiting, anorexia and poor reaction.Abdominal tenderness and changes in borborygmus were major physical examination. The initial diagnosis of appendicitis only 61cases(18.9%).The changes of appendix and its surrounding lesions,a right lower quadrant mass and peritoneal effusion in abdominal ultrasound accounted for 26.9%,25.6% and 19.9% separately.304infants(94.1%)did operation,at last,89.9% cure,3.3% improvement, and 6.8% death. Conclusion: NA lacks specific symptoms and signs, and early diagnosis is difficult.Abdominal ultrasound have some diagnostic value. We need to analyse of clinical symptoms and imaging,so that we could diagnose early and reduce the mortality of NA.
