Objective: To study the correlation between body composition and arteriosclerosis. And explore the role of body components in arteriosclerosis. Methods: Demographic data and risk factors of cardiovascular diseases were investigated in 514 subjects who underwent physical examination from June 2016 to March 2017.Body height, weight, body mass index(BMI),body fat rate, body fat volume, muscle mass, visceral fat level and body age were recorded by body composition analyzer.Pearson correlation analysis and partial correlation analysis were used in this study.Result: Pearson correlation analysis showed that body age, visceral fat level, body fat rate, body fat mass and BMI were positively correlated with brachial-ankle arterial pulse wave velocity(baPWV).The ratio of muscle mass to weight was negatively correlated with baPWV.After controlling for age, systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure, partial correlation analysis showed that body age was still positively correlated with baPWV.According to the Pearson correlation analysis by age subgroup, the correlation between visceral fat level and baPWV was the highest in the group aged 30-44(r=0.34,p < 0.01),the correlation between body age and baPWV was the highest in the group aged 45-59(r=0.38,p < 0.01),and the correlation between body age and baPWV was the highest in the group aged over 60(r=0.53,p < 0.01).After grouping by gender, the correlation between body age and baPWV was the highest in both males(r=0.57,p<0.01)and females(r=0.58,p<0.01).Conclusion: 1.In the general population, the correlation between central obesity and arteriosclerosis is closer than BMI 2.There was an independent positive correlation between body age and arteriosclerosis, and the increase of body age can be used as a predictor of arteriosclerosis 3.Increased muscle mass ratio may delay the progress of atherosclerosis 4.With the increase of age,the correlation between visceral fat level and arteriosclerosis was gradually weakened. And visceral fat level was not associated with arteriosclerosis in people over 60 years old.
