Objective: To investigate the feasibility and safety of retroperitoneal laparoendoscopic adrenalectomy for pheochromocytoma. Methods: The clinical data of 14 patients with adrenal pheochromocytoma admitted from May 2014 to July 2017 in our department were reviewed retrospectively. All patients underwent retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery,of which 6 cases were located on the left side and 8 cases were on the right side. The average diameter was 4.4cm(range 2.7cm to 7.2 cm).11 cases suffered from persistent or intermittent hypertension. The 24-h urinary catecholamines(UCA)or vanillylmandelic acid(VMA)increased significantly in 10 cases and 8cases respectively. Results: All the operations were technically successful, without conversion to open procedures.Intraoperative blood pressure lability occurred in 8 patients, hypertension crisis in 2 and hypotension in 6respectively.The operation time was(110±24)min with estimated bloodloss(118±23)ml;Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma. All of the patients were generally discharged on postoperative day(4.3±1.7).The clinic symptoms and signs were disappeared except two of them with high blood pressure existed after the surgery. Conclusion: Retroperitoneal laparoscopic adrenalectomy for the treatment of phenochromocytoma in selected patients is a safe and minimally invasive procedure associated with less postoperative pain and faster recovery.
