ObjectTo explore the relationship between 24-hour urine volume and the duration of water deprivation in patients with diabetes insipidus. And to determine the relationship between the duration of water deprivation and the severity of patients with central diabetes insipidus.MethodsA retrospective case study was conducted to collect 46 patients with polyuria who underwent vasopressin-deprivation test in the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from January 1,2010 to April30,2018,including 7 patients with primary thirst and 39 patients with central diabetes insipidus. The data of sex, age, height, weight, body surface area,24 hours urine volume, random urine osmotic pressure,flat-top urine osmotic pressure, urine osmotic pressure after one hour of vasopressin injection and blood osmotic pressure were recorded.According to the 24 hours urine volume before the experiment, the patients were divided into three groups, and the differences of the duration of waterdeprivation between the groups were compared, and the correlation between the duration of water deprivation and the indicators was analyzed.Meanwhile, the correlation between abstinence time and the severity of diabetes insipidus was analyzed.ResultsThere was a difference in the duration of water deprivation between the groups, and there was a negative correlation between the 24 hours urine volume before the test and the duration of water deprivation(r=-0.302,P<0.05).There was a positive correlation between he duration of water deprivation and the random urine osmotic pressure before the test, urine osmotic pressure during the flat-top period(P<0.05).There was no significant correlation between age, height, weight, body surface area, blood osmotic pressure during the flat-topping period and the time.At the same time, the duration of water deprivation can predict the degree of arginine vasopressin deficiency in patients with central diabetes insipidus.ConclusionIn the water deprivation test, the less urine volume in patients with polyuria 24 hours before the test, the higher the urine osmotic pressure during the flat-top period, the longer the corresponding banned time.In practice, the 24-hour urine volume before the test can be used to roughly predict the time required for drinking. The greater the increase in urine osmotic pressure after the injection of vasopressin, the severer the patient'scondition, and the shorter the corresponding banned time.
