Hypertension is recognized as one of the most important risk factors for cognition impairment.Many studies show hypertension can influence cognitive function,especially executive function and speed of processing.The association of hypertension in late life with cognition is not clear,when there is evidence that hypertension in adolescence and in midlife is associated with cognition impairment in both midlife and late life.The major changes in brain induced by hypertension,was the change of structure and function of cerebral vessels,and blood-brain barrier(BBB)integrity.Anti-hypertensive treatment has beneficial effects on cognitive decline.There is an association between All kinds of anti-hypertensive drugs and lower cognitive decline,except diuretic.The benefits on cognition is greater with ARB than with other anti-hypertensive drugs and is independent of blood pressure lowering.
