Background: Totally implantable venous access port(TIVAP)is commonly used for long-term intravenous treatment of cancer patients. It can be indwelling in the body for a long time for easy management. It is a simple and safe infusion method and highly accepted by the patients.Although the risks associated with TIVAP are lower than those associated with other central venous catheter, complications can still occur during implantation or during long-term use. Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics, complications and prognosis of children with TIVAP.Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the data of 172 cases with TIVAP in Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from January 2016 to February 2018.Demographic data, basic disease status, and operative data were collected, and the complications after implantation were recorded and analyzed.SPSS software was used to analyze the influencing factors between the complication group and the control group. Results: There were 172 cases in our hospital with TIVAP,among which 70 cases had complications(70 / 172,40.7%).Local infection was the most common complication(36 / 172,20.9%),followed by catheter blockage(23 / 172,13.4%),catheter-related bloodstream infection(16 /172,9.3%).There were 18 cases of unplanned explantation(18 / 172,10.5%),the rate of explantation of catheter-related bloodstream infection was the highest(9 / 18,50%).The most common bacteria in catheter-related bloodstream infections were coagulase-negative staphylococcus. In the analysis, there was a significant difference in age between catheter-related infections group with no complications group, and significant difference in age between all complications group with no complications group(P<0.05).Conclusion: The overall incidence of complications of TIVAP is relatively high, but most of the complications are relatively minor, which are improved after treatment, and no death cases due to complications of TIVAP have been found.Infection was the most common complication and catheter-related bloodstream infection was the most common cause of unplanned explantation of TIVAP.Lower age may be associated with a higher incidence of complications.
