Objective: To prove the blood eosinophils(b-EOS)as a predictor of asthmatic exacerbation and find the relationship between airway pathogens and eosinophilic inflammation in children with asthma. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data of 379 cases which were diagnosed with asthma exacerbation. And they were divided into 4 groups: bacteria group, virus group, bacteria&virus group and negative group. Results: Among these cases, the b-EOS count of bacteria group was much more than that of virus group and bacteria&virus group, whether at the beginning or in the end of the hospital(P<0.01),but there was no significant difference between virus group and bacteria&virus group(P>0.05).All the patients showed elevated b-EOS count during their stay in hospital(P<0.01),in which bacteria&virus group showed the similar rise(P<0.05).In bacteria group, the b-EOS count of the patients withstreptococcus pneumoniae colonization or infection would increase in the duration of hospital stay(P<0.05).What's more,in spite of the use of antibiotics, the b-EOS count of the bacteria group didn't show a significant elevation during hospitalizing(P>0.05).Conclusion : The blood eosinophils could be a novel predictor of asthma in children. And the colonization or infection of airway bacteria, especially streptococcus pneumoniae, was important for the asthmatic status. Moreover, the use of antibiotics couldn't reduce the allergic inflammation of asthma.More researches were needed.
