Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis:Case Analysis And Correlation Analysis Between Oral Prednisone Taper Time And The Time To Recurrence

Objective: To study the clinical features,auxiliary examinations,prednisone therapy and relapse of children with multiple sclerosis(MS);analyze the correlation between oral prednisone taper time and the time to recurrence.Methods: A retrospective study of clinical information involving 38 hospitalized patients diagnosed with MS from January 2012 to January2018,the patients were followed up and analyse those recurrence patients.Results:1.The clinical manifestations of MS in children are varied,dizziness/headache and movement disorder are most common manifestations,visual disorder,convulsion and cerebellar symptoms can be seen,but sensory disorder and autonomic nervous dysfunction are rare.2.MRI of MS patients showed that most lesions were simultaneous lesions in 2-3 regions,and some cases showed brain atrophy.The lesion is sensitive to corticosteroids,positive rate of CSF OB in children is low.3.The recurrence rate is high in the first year after the onset of MS in children.Currently,corticosteroids is still the main treatment for MS inchildren.There is positive correlation between oral prednisone taper time and the time to recurrence.There was significant difference between different oral prednisone taper longer than 24 months and shorter than 3months.Conclusion: 1.The clinical manifestations of MS in children are varied,with dizziness/headache as the main non-specific manifestations and movement disorder as the main specific manifestations.2.MRI showed that the lesion was sensitive to corticosteroids therapy,and the positive rate of OB in children is low.Head MRI,CSF,OB and evoked potential were important auxiliary examinations.3.To prolong the oral prednisone taper time can delay the time to relapse.But larger sample size and prospective studies are needed for the most appropriate oral prednisone taper duration.
