Objective:Hydrogen proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy was used to determine the relative content and ratio of dorsal thalamus in normal adults, and calculation the influences between different metabolites and age, gender and side,Measuring the reference range of each metabolite content. Methods:Hydrogen proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy analysis of the dorsal thalamus in120 healthy adults(40 in each of the youth, middle and old groups).Regular scanning using the Siemens Avanto 1.5T magnetic resonance instrument.Including fast spin echo(FRFSE)axis position T2(TR 4000 ms,TE95 ms)weighted image, spin echo(SE)sequence axis position T1(TR 500 ms,TE8.4 ms)weighted image inspection, layer thickness 5mm,Coronal,sagittal,and horizontal axis TSE sequence T2-weighted image scanning,Triaxial positioning,Select bilateral dorsal thalamus as the region of interest(80mm × 80 mm × 20mm),voxel size 10 mm × 10 mm × 15 mm,avoid bone, calcification, adipose tissue, cerebrospinal fluid, place a saturated zone, prevent surrounding tissue from the area of interest Impact.Voxel shimming, water suppression is automatically completed by the program.Multi voxel imaging(MVS)3D-CSI(chemical shift image)sequence scan(TR=1500 ms,TE=135 ms). Then use a random program for baseline correction and phase correction.Data is processed using Siemens Avanto 1.5T magnetic resonance workstation software and converted into spectra and values.Waveforms of N-acetyl aspartate(NAA),choline complex(Cho)and creatine(Cr)metabolites in the dorsal thalamus, respectively. And calculate the ratio of NAA/Cr,NAA/Cho,NAA/(Cho+Cr),Cho/Cr,and Cho/NAA.And analyze the effects of age, gender, and side on each metabolite. Results:There was no significant difference in the ratio of metabolites in the dorsal thalamus of normal adults.NAA/Cho,NAA/Cr,and NAA/(Cho+Cr)are negatively correlated withage and decrease with age.Cho/Cr,Cho/NAA are positively correlated with age and increase with age.n each age group, the 95% reference range for each metabolite ratio is NAA/Cr(2.01 to 1.35),NAA/Cho(1.047 to 1.583),NAA/(Cho+Cr)(1.04 to 0.68),Cho in the youth group./Cr(1.23 to 0.87),Cho/NAA(0.711 to 1.251);middle-aged group NAA/Cr(1.84 to 1.48),NAA/Cho(0.822 to 1.254),NAA/(Cho+Cr)(1.01 to 0.75)Cho/Cr(1.29~1.03),Cho/NAA(0.805~1.332);elderly group NAA/Cr(1.75~1.51),NAA/Cho(0.619~0.998),NAA/(Cho+Cr)(0.97~0.81)),Cho/Cr(1.31 to 1.15),and Cho/NAA(0.968 to 1.842).Age-related analysis and regression analysis : Age changes caused changes in metabolites and ratios in the thalamus. The regression analysis was performed on the ratio of each age group to each metabolite. The results were NAA/Cr(R~2=0.9736),Cho/Cr(R~2=0.0853),Cho/NAA.(R~2=0.946),NAA /(Cho + Cr)(R~2=0.05356),NAA / Cho(r =-0.959).The regression analysis equation is as follows:NAA/Cho=-0.0128X+1.709;NAA/Cr=-0.0063X+1.9483;NAA/(Cho+Cr)=-0.0049X+1.1297;Cho/Cr=0.0025X+1.0054Conclusion:Hydrogen proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy can non-invasively reflect changes in metabolite content of dorsal thalamus and thalamus in normal adults with age, providing a basis for the diagnosis of thalamic lesions.
