OBJECTIVE:The aim of our study was to explore a new possible diagnosis approach of early aseptic loosening in tumor patient with hip arthroplasty.Aseptic loosening should take into consideration if early X-ray change was found.METHODS:We reviewed 150 tumor patients who underwent hip arthroplasty in 2nd affiliated hospital of Zhejiang University between Jan.2010 and Mar 2017.A 1:2 matched pair study was performed between 6 cases of aseptic loosening with 12 cases without aseptic loosening in sex, age, and tumor type.RESULTS:There was no significant difference of ages(45.7±26.9 vs 48.5±24.5,p=0.953),BMI(23.2±2.6 vs 22.4±1.4,p=0.506),or follow-up time(57±40.2 vs 53.3±33.2,p=0.866)between the loosening group and the control group.Besides, the length of prosthesis handle and the length of bone removing showed no statistical difference(147.3±3.5mm vs 156.9±13.2mm,P=0.539;217.8±34.8mm vs 202.1±39,p=0.19).An increasing trend could be observed in radiolucent between femur and prosthesis(24.6±35.7mm vs 0.5±1.7mm,P=0.076).CONCLUSIONS:Progressive increasing of radiolucent after total or hemi-hip arthroplasty in bone tumor indicate possible aseptic loosening and should be taken into consideration by slrgeons.
