ObjectiveMild cognitive impairment(MCI)is a syndrome happened in health people that has a significant decline in cognitive function compared to the same age and level of education, but not affect the normal daily activities. In this study,a randomized controlled trial was conducted to observe the effect of auricular acupuncture on cognitive function in Patients with mild cognitive impairment and to Provide a new diagnosis and treatment of mild cognitive impairment in clinic by using more normalized and rigorous auricular therapy.MethodsFollowing the principles of evidence-based medicine and clinical eidemiology,61 Patients with mild cognitive impairment from Foshan Welfare Center in Nanhai were included in this study and were randomly divided into Auricular acupuncture Group(31 in total)and Health education Group(30 in total);Patients in Auricular Acupuncture Group received Auricular acupuncture therapy once a week, and those in the Health Education Group participated in a health education seminar once a week, which was conducted for 20 weeks.Comparing the efficacy of two different interventions, some scales including the Mini mental State Examination(MMSE),and the Montreal Cognitive assessment(MoCA)(Beijing Version)or Montreal cognitive assessment-basic(MoCA-B),and Activity of daily living(ADL)were measured at baseline and after 20 weeks as our outcomes.Statistical analysis used SPSS 25-0 software.Data were analyzed by t test,non-parametrie test or variance analysis.Results1.After 20 weeks, the MMSE scores,MoCA scores and MoCA-B scores of the intervention group was significantly higher than those at baseline, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05),compared with the control group.2.After 20 weeks, the health education group had an improvement in the total score MoCA-B scale, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).3.After 20 weeks, the scores of "Delayed recall","Attention" and "Visual Perception" increased significantly(P<0.05)in auricular acupuncture group, which was no different in those in control group.ColclusionAuricular acupuncture can significantly improve cognitive function in Patients with mild cognitive impairment, especially in terms of delayed recall, attention, and can improve the visual perception function of Patients with lower educational level. It is more effective than health education and worth further research and promotion.
