Study On Chemical Constituents And Antitussive Activity Of Xianzhuli

Xianzhuli leaches the natural leached liquid from the fresh poles of Gramineae plant Pink green bamboo and several plants of the same genus after heating,boiling and adding appropriate amount of preservatives.It has the effect of clearing heat and resolving phlegm.It is used for the treatment of pulmonary fever cough and phlegm,asthma,chest tightness,stroke tongue,phlegm and saliva congestion,phlegm,heat and convulsion in children.Xianzhuli juice is a traditional Chinese medicine for relieving cough and expelling phlegm.It has definite curative effect.Some studies have shown that fresh bamboo juice can improve asthma,laryngopharyngitis,cerebral hemorrhage and nausea.It is mainly used for antitussive and phlegm-resolving treatment in clinic.In this paper,the expectorant pharmacological activity of mice was studied.The results showed that the extract of fresh bamboo and ethyl acetate could significantly increase the excretion of phenol red in trachea of mice compared with the blank control group(p<0.01).It has good expectorant effect.The chemical constituents of fresh ethyl acetate fraction of fresh bamboo juice were studied.29 monomer compounds were isolated from the extract of fresh bamboo juice by silica gel,gel,C18 and other column chromatography,reversed phase high pressure liquid chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography.Their chemical structures were determined by means of spectroscopy,chemical methods and comparative literature,including: Vanillin(1),4-Hydroxy-3-methox-ybenzyl alcohol(2),Vanillicacid(3),trans-p-hydroxylcinnamaldehyde(4),4-hydroxybenzaldehyde(5),syringaldehyde(6),3,5-dihydroxy-4methoxybenz-aldehyde(7),sinapaldehyde(8),coniferyl aldehyde(9),2-hydroxy-1-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)propan-1-one(10),methyl-3-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzoate(11),Acetovanillone(12),methy-4-hydroxybenzoate(13),3-methoxy gallic acid(14),4-methoxy-cinnamic acid(15),6-hydroxy-2-(4'-h-ydroxy-3',5'-dimethoxyphenyl)-3,7-dioxa-bicyclo-[3.3.0]--octane(16),syringaresinol(17),4'-O-methyltricetin(18),(7S,8S)-3'-methoxy-2,3,4,9-tetrahydroxy-4': 7,5':8-diepoxyneolignan-1'-carboxylicacidmethylester(19),8-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)-2,4-dimethoxy-3-naphthol(20),(+)-lyoniresinol(21),cassyformin(22),syringic acid(23),3-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzoic acid(24),1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-acetone(25),2-hydroxy-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-propan-1-one(26),3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxy-propiophenone(27),3-hydroxy-1-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxy-phenyl)-1-propanone(28),(4,4'-dihydroxybenzene)dimethyl methane(29)?Compounds 19 and 20 were new compounds.Compounds 1-4 and 6-22 were isolated from fresh bamboo juice for the first time.Phenolic acid compounds 1,6 and 8 can prevent and treat cough induced by citric acid in guinea pigs.
