Comparison Of The Efficacy Of Gamma3 And Inter Tan Intramedullary Nail In The Treatment Of AO 31-A3 Intertrochanteric Fractures

Aims: We performed this research to compare the outcomes of Gamma3 and InterTan intramedullary nail systems in the treatment of AO/OTA 31-A3 intertrochanteric fractures.Materials and Methods: Patients with AO/OTA 31-A3 intertrochanteric fractures who underwent intramedullary internal fixation from August 2014 to September 2017,The operation time,intra-operative blood loss,hospital-stay length,hip function Harris score,and postoperative complications were compared between the groups.Result: Forty-two patients were included in the Gamma3 nail(GN)group,and twenty-six patients were included in the InterTan nail(IN)group.The mean blood loss was significantly lower(P = 0.005)in patients of the GN group than in patients of the IN group.There were no significant differences in the operation time,hospital-stay length,and hip Harris score between the groups.Conclusion: Compared with the use of Gamma3 nail in the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures of the lateral wall,InterTan nail associated with a significant increase in intra-operative blood loss.However,better randomized controlled trials need to be designed and larger sample sizes need to be included for more specific results.
