Purpose: To investigate the associations between Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)syndrome types and HAART、 levels of CD4+T cells,CD8+ T cells, lymphocytes(LYMPH)、 Th1/Th2 cytokines IFN-γand IL-5 of AIDS(Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndromes)patients. Methods: A total of 139 AIDS outpatients and hospitalized patients from the Forth People’s hospital of Nanning Guangxi Province, with or without antiretroviral therapy(HAART)for 6 to 12 months, were collected.AIDS patients were divided into groups in two different ways:(a)according to TCM syndrome types: 14 empirical syndrome patients(group 1),23 deficiency syndrome patients(group 2)and 102 intermingled deficiency and excess syndrome patients(group 3);(b)according to whether HAART treatments:HAART Group 80 cases and Non-HAART Group 59 cases. The CD4 + T and CD8 + T cells counts of AIDS patients were all detected by flow cytometry. The serum concentration of IFN-γ and IL-5 of AIDS patients were detected byenzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Use parametric or Nonparametric test to analyze the levels of CD4 + T and CD8 + T cells counts,IFN-γ,IL-5,lymphocytes(LYMPH)of AIDS patients after they were divided in two ways mentioned before.Use logistic regression analysis to to analyze the associations between TCM syndrome types and levels of CD4 + T and CD8 + T cells counts,IFN-γ,IL-5,HAART and Non-HAART factor.P<0.05 was thought to be significant.Results:1.The frequency of TCM syndrome types of AIDS patients were:intermingled deficiency and excess syndrome 73.38%,deficiency syndrome patients 16.55%,empirical syndrome(10.07%).The most possibly involved organs were spleen(77.69%)、kidney(68.34%)、lung(62.58%).2.CD4+T counts were different with different TCM syndrome types.CD4+T counts in Group 1 and group2 were higher than group3;3.Serum IFN-γ 、 IL-5,LYMPH,CD8 + T levels were not significant different with different TCM syndrome type.4.HAART versus Non-HAART have higher CD4+T 、CD8+T 、LYMPH cells counts、IL-5 levels, lower IFN-γlevels.5.Multiple logistic regression analysis results:(1)TCM syndrome types of AIDS patients were associated with CD4+T counts(P<0.001,model fitting P<0.001,model predictive value percentage72.9%),whereas may be not associated with CD8+T cells、LYMPH counts、IFN-γ、IL-5 levels(P value were 0.884、0.398、0.627、0.834respectively).(2)TCM syndrome types of AIDS patients were associated with HAART(model fitting P=0.003,model predictive value percentage 73.2%),The OR of AIDS patients with HAART versus Non-HAART acted as deficiency syndrometype versus intermingled deficiency and excess syndrome type were 4.845(β=1.578,P=0.007),whereas the OR of AIDS patients with HAART versus Non-HAART acted as empirical syndrome type versus intermingled deficiency and excess syndrome type were no significant(P=0.053).Conclusions:1.TCM syndrome types of AIDS patients in Guangxi give priority to intermingled deficiency and excess syndrome, the involved organs give priority to spleen, kidney and lung.2.Different CD4+T cells counts may be correspondence with different TCM syndrome types of AIDS patients. From high to low counts are: empirical syndrome or deficiency syndrome, intermingled deficiency and excess syndrome.3.TCM syndrome types of AIDS patients may be associated with CD4+T counts, whereas may be not associated with CD8+T cells、LYMPH counts、IFN-γ、IL-5 levels.4.HAART versus Non-HAART may have altered CD4+T,CD8+T cells 、LYMPH counts、IFN-γ、IL-5 levels, nevertheless,TCM syndrome types of AIDS patients may not predict the difference of their levels except CD4+T.5.TCM syndrome types of AIDS patients may be associated with HAART,which may result in the odds of deficiency syndrome type increasing.
