Breast cancer is the most common tumor in female. The incidence of breast cancer in China each year is ranked as the second most in the world.Androgen and its receptor(AR)has been attracted more and more attention on its critical role in the development of breast cancer.AR positivity is observed at 80%-90% in primary breast cancer, more than 50%-80% of estrogen receptor(ER)positivity.Lots of literature have provided insight into the clinical interest of AR,which suggested AR may be a potential marker of prognosis and be a promising therapeutic target as well.Although it is not elucidated fully in the underlaid mechanism of androgen and androgen receptor in those fields. This review took a detailed view on the physiological and pathological functions of androgen and androgen receptor, summarized related research on AR-targeted therapy and clinical applications.Though there exists unclear factors,we proposed possible breakthrough in related fields.
