Objective: To study the relationship between neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio and clinicopathological features of gastric cancer, and to provide evidence for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods: The clinicopathological data of 571 patients with gastric cancer treated in Tumor Hospital Affiliated to Guangxi Medical University from January 2009 to December 2017 were retrospectively analyzed, including 393 male patients and 178 female patients, with an average age of 56.1 years.Neutrophil count and lymphocyte count were collected and the ratio of neutrophil to lymphocyte(NLR)was calculated according to the data. The median of NLR was 1.88.The NLR(> 1.88)was defined as high NLR group and < 1.88 as low NLR group. The relationship between NLR and clinicopathological characteristics was analyzed by chi-square test and SPARMAN grade correlation. The relationship between age, sex,BMI,preoperative CEA,preoperative CA199,albumin level, tumor location, tissue type,Borrmann type,Lauren type, maximum diameter of tumor,NLR and pathological stage after operation was analyzed by logistic regression. Results: NLR was positively correlated with the depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis, tumor size and pathological stage of gastric cancer.CEA(>5ng/ml),CA199(> 37U/ml),maximum diameter(> 4cm),location of tumors in the upper part of the stomach, low differentiated type of tissues,Borrmann type III and NLR(> 1.88)were closely related to the pathological stage of gastric cancer after operation, and were positively correlated. Conclusion: NLR is an independent risk factor for pathological staging of gastric cancer after operation. The higher the NLR,the later the pathological staging.NLR can be used as a new simple and reliable index to predict the pathological stage of gastric cancer before operation.
