ObjectiveThis study aimed to analyze the prevalence and influence factors of hypertension among primary and secondary school students aged 9-18 in Henan Province and provide scientific evidence for more targeted hypertension prevention strategies.MethodsA total of 34,840 students aged 918 from Henan Province were conducted physical examination and questionnaire based on National School Student Physical Fitness and Health Survey in 2014.Blood pressure percentiles P90 and P95 of the same age,sex and height were used as diagnostic thresholds for hypertension.Dealhistory Microsoft 1.0 was used for double data entry, and SPSS21.0 software was used for statistical description and statistical analysis.Quantitative data were expressed by mean±standard deviation, qualitative data were described by constituent ratio or%.Chi-square test was used for comparison between groups.Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of hypertension among primary and secondary school students. And the significant level was 0.05.Results1.Prevalence of hypertensionAmong the 34,840 primary and secondary school students aged 9-18 in Henan Province,4,494 students suffered from hypertension?12.9%?and 5,382 students had normal high blood pressure?15.4%?.The average diastolic blood pressure was 68.82±8.16mmHg and 2,698 students had hypertension in diastolic blood pressure?7.7%?.The average systolic blood pressure was 109.30±12.11mmHg and 2,797 students had hypertension in systolic blood pressure?8.0%?.2.Demographic distribution of hypertensionThe prevalence of hypertension in boy and girl were 12.6%and 13.2%,respectively.The highest prevalence of hypertension was 17.9%in the 14-year-old group and the lowest was 3.3%in the 18-year-old group. The prevalence of primary school, junior high school and senior high school were 14.0%,15.5%and 9.2%,respectively,and junior high school was higher than primary school which was higher than senior high school??2=229.059,P<0.001?.The prevalence of hypertension in urban and rural were 11.5%and 14.3%,respectively,and rural was higher than urban??2=59.609,P<0.001?.3.Influence factors of hypertensionBinary logistic regression analysis showed that high BMI?OR=1.812?,Feeling tired in physical education class?OR=1.107?,watching TV for longer time?OR=1.156?and unwilling to take part in physical education?OR=1.079?and extracurricular sports activities?OR=1.083?were risk factors for hypertension?P<0.05?.While longer sleep time?OR=0.837?,more serious attitude toward setting-up exercises during the break?OR=0.934?,exercise for a long time every day?OR=0.931?and more sports meetings?OR=0.957?were protective factors for hypertension?P<0.05?.Conclusions1.The prevalence of hypertension among primary and secondary school students in Henan Province is at a higher level in China, and the main type of hypertension is systolic hypertension.2.The prevalence of hypertension in primary and secondary school students in Henan Province was higher in rural than urban, higher in junior high school than primary school which was higher than senior high school.3.Compared with boys, physical activity behavior and sleep time have more significant effects on the occurrence of hypertension in girls.
