AIM The purpose of this study was to study the role of biofilm in the management for prevention of Frey's syndrome(FS).METHOD This study based on 40 patients who suffered from parotid gland tumors, pleomorphic adenoma(PA).The patients were divided into two groups randomly(group A-using biological membrane and group B-not using biological membrane). All patients were followed and assessed regularly. The experimental groups were inserted membrane matrix to restore the parotidomasseteric facial flap(PMFF)after parotidectomy. All the patients were explored by questionnaire and minor starch-iodine test for existence of Frey's syndrome(FS).RESULT All the patients were followed up to 10 to 14 months. All operations were successful and no cases were notice to deteriorate post operatively. The result showed that 5%(1 of 20)in experimental group and 40%(8 of 20)in control group had indication of Frey's syndrome by asking and starch iodine test. The result shows a consequential difference(P ?0.05).CONCLUSION There was a consequential difference between the two groups.Insertion of biological membrane is an effective method for reconstructing the parotidomasseteric fascial flap(PMFF)to prevent Frey's syndrome(FS)after parotidectomy.
